Mission

Supporting the psychological and physical health of mid-Michigan women through community leadership, resource development and outreach initiatives.

Vision

To be the area's premier advocate for women's health and wellness issues through the development and support of a center that focuses on health education and preventive medicine, utilizing the resources of our community including MSU and Sparrow Hospital medical and nursing staff.

Help Women Working Wonders achieve this vision with a donation.

Our Goal

The Women Working Wonders committee is funding the purchase of a new MicroSelectron HDR V2 for the Sparrow Regional Cancer Center, Radiation Oncology Department.

This new equipment will allow physicians to offer an alternate treatment to traditional external radiation for stage one breast cancer patients.

This alternate treatment, Brachytherapy, is the delivery of radiation treatment directly into the cavity where cancer was found. It provides a higher degree of accuracy with less healthy tissue damage. The course of treatment with brachytherapy is twice a day for 5 days, a dramatic reduction from traditional external beam treatments, which are typically once a day for 5-7 weeks.

Since 2002, W3 has raised more than $500,000, bringing unique and life-saving programs for women to Sparrow.

Funded Sparrow Hospital's SANE Room

  • State of the art exam room used exclusively for victims of sexual assault
  • Annually, more than 350 patients receive highly specialized care by certified SANE nurses
  • Of these, more than half are children under the age of 18

Funded Sparrow Emergency Department Women's Treatment Rooms

  • Two rooms used on a daily basis
  • Specifically designed to meet the emergency health needs of women

Currently Raising Funds for MicroSelectron HDR V2

  • The MicroSelectron HDR V2 is a life-saving piece of equipment in Sparrow's Cancer Center radiation oncology department
  • Upon W3's commitment to fund the MircoSelectron HDR V2, the equipment was purchased, and has been in use since January 1, 2007
  • The treatments replace traditional external beam radiation and dramatically reduce length of treatment from 5 weeks to 5 days
  • With your help, W3 expects to conclude this $250,000 commitment with dollars raised in 2010

W3 supports the psychological and physical health of women in Mid-Michigan through community leadership, resource development and outreach initiatives.
